Sosakonline Archive

Please note that all content in this section has been imported from our old Sosakonline website and may contain broken links. We are revising it as we can, but these things take time, and it's a lot of content to get through!

We are all familiar with the new Victorinox Rescue Tool which debuted at the end of last year, and won the Knife of the Year award for 2007, but something you may not be familiar with is the two handed version of the knife, made for regions that frown on one handed opening blades.

Well it’s been over a year since I first looked at Victorinox’ entry into the LED market, and I thought it might be time for an update.  In addition to just talking about how I’ve gotten on in the past year with the 2xAA light I reviewed last year in the LED Shootout, I will also be looking at the 2xAAA light that I got with the new OHT, as seen last month.

We had a great response last month to the Soldier donation drive, so we are going to do it again this month, but with a couple of interesting twists!

Continuing on the Urban Chameleon series from last month we’ll be looking at the “Alien From Mars” this month.  Almost identical to last month’s “Alien From Uranus” the Martian is green and black rather than blue and black.  The scales are still textured with the same textile scale pattern (scaled scales- confused yet?) as the Alien from Uranus.

Part II of the History of SOSAK explores the beginnings of what I like to think of as my enlightenment, and it's all thanks to a little thing called the Internet! As you may remember from Part One last month, my career as a knife collector/enthusiast seemed in jeopardy after having no decent role models to look up to.

I recently found and won a very strange SAK on eBay- it looks like an old Soldier model with a rounded awl, which in itself would be interesting enough, but this one has some other, more fascinating features.

There are certain models of knives and multitools that I have resigned myself to never having either because finding them is virtually impossible or they are fantastically expensive when they are found.  The Wenger PocketGrip with the needle nose is one of those.

For those even remotely familiar with the knife and tool industry the mere mention of the SHOT or BLADE shows is enough to get one’s mouth watering!  These are the two big knife conventions where manufacturers can be expected to roll out all of the new goodies for the coming year, and the 2008 SHOT Show in Las Vegas is no different.  Very likely by the time you read this I will have arrived there for a very special purpose!

I was lucky enough recently to get a lightly used Wenger Spotlight from another SOSAK member (Thanks SwissMan) and I thought I would share my thoughts on it.  While it isn’t the brightest flashlight out there (not even close!) It is a pretty neat little knife in it’s own right!

As we learned last month, Knifeforums.com had managed to give me a “home” where I could indulge myself with like minded individuals, if not specifically SAK info, then at least with the knowledge that there were other, very normal knife collector’s out there.  In this month’s installment we see how SOSAK got started, why it has such a lofty name and why it’s only visible to members.
