November 11th is Remembrance Day in Canada, and Veteran's Day in the US, and probably a similar day all across the world. It doesn't matter what it's called, or even if the date is different elsewhere. This is a day of remembrance for those who fought and died for the freedoms that we take for granted.
I wanted to say something about this, the holiest of days, at least to me, because it is something that is very close to my heart.

In Flanders Fields
By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918)
Canadian Army

IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

To those who have gone before, and to those who stand proud now, and to those who will someday stand up and take their place on the wall, I thank you.
