Sosakonline Archive

Please note that all content in this section has been imported from our old Sosakonline website and may contain broken links. We are revising it as we can, but these things take time, and it's a lot of content to get through!

It's hard to believe that yet another year has slipped by us, and that SOSAKOnline has been amusing SAK fans for four whole years!  It's pretty amazing when you think about it- four years, almost 500 SAK related articles, numerous contests, giveaways, and most importantly, stories, photos and thoughts from members all over the world.

Shortly after last month's newsletter went out I got a reply from the top man at WengerNA (who by the way was also nice enough to send along the great anniversary wish you see at the side!) wanting to know if any of us would be interested in one of very few 2008 stamped Wenger Standard Issue (Soldat) models.  Naturally I jumped at the chance- in fact, so much that had there been any more enthusiasm, I might have landed myself in the hospital!

I am sure that many here will see the Following Pic and Story as Sacrilege...If I did not know the Man who I call "Dad" I probably would too...

Marc at EDCDepot.com has been a sponsor of SOSAKOnline and my other project, Multitool.org for years now and is always good to members.  This year is no different.

The Feline Veterinary Emergency Assistance Program would like to thank everyone for their wonderful support. Your purchases and contributions have helped many families save the lives of their companion pets.

For perhaps the first time in SOSAK history I am writing an article discussing knives made by all companies, not specifically SAKs or related knives.  Lately there has been a huge upheaval in the knife industry as US Congress and Customs tries to ban all assisted opening knives by re-classifying them as "switchblades."  Of course, under the new definition, the law could also be expanded to include one handed openers in the future, and that would affect SAK collectors directly since both Victorinox and Wenger produce one handed opening knives.  Of course most SAK collectors are also collectors of other types of knives, so this proposed ban is certainly worth paying attention to.  Blade Magazine has it right:

Since the SOSAKOnline Anniversary Celebration comes around only once a year I contacted just about everyone I know in the various knife and related industry and many wished us well, many (as you've seen!) offered items to give away, some provided some graphics and banners for us and others are making offers to allow members to choose what they want themselves!

For those of you in Canada (like me!) you are probably already familiar with Swiss Peak.  For the rest of you, Swiss Peak is the Canadian Distributor for Wenger products, and I have been proud to work with them on and off for the past few years.  When some of my contacts there heard of our Anniversary Celebration, they refused to let it sneak by without doing something, and here it is!
