    This is an excellent question, and one that is asked all the time on the forums- in fact, not just the SOSAK forum on Knifeforums.com, but on many other forums I belong to or lurk at.  It seems to be one of the most common questions, although depending on the forum it can often be “what watch, multitool, PDA etc is best for...?”


For years the Camper was the "BEST" model for me, as it was all I had.  It also saw more work than any of my other SAKs will see.

    This has been in the news a bit lately, but for those who have yet to hear or read about it, the World Trade Organization is trying to force the Swiss Military to open their knife contract to suppliers all over the world.  The thought is that since China can produce some decent quality knives (I know many are groaning at that, but I’ll discuss that later!) at bargain basement prices, they are likely to “win” the contract.  If that happens, the branding that has adorned Victorinox and Wenger products for years will no longer apply to them, and the discount manufacturers of the Orient will be able to cash in on the reputation.

I was originally browsing for a new watch, with the points from my credit card, and found they had nothing of interest.  So I took a look around and found I can get an Evo 18!!  I've always wondered how they are, and have been interested for a bit now.

    The old saying about old bold Soldiers obviously was not coined with the Swiss Army in mind, or at the very least, they never considered the Victorinox Soldier.  As anyone who owns an old Soldier model can attest to, these old SAKs are the exception that proves the rule!

The redesigned Ranger series of knives from Wenger have really grabbed my attention. Dubbed the New Rangers, there are a total of eighteen different variations shown on the Wenger site HERE and on the preceeding page. Being the multitool nut that I am, I was most interested in the ones with the folding pliers and the folding scissors.

Felinevet reports that none of the folding plier versions are available yet, so in order to slake my thirst I bought a scissors version, the model 172 Gardener.

    One of the most common questions that gets asked in the forum is “what is the purpose of the hook?”  It seems that the poor utility hook on the backside of any 91mm Victorinox knife produced since 1991, that are also equipped with scissors really does get no respect.  Well, here’s an opportunity to look into it a little bit closer, and perhaps gain some insight.


The hook is so useless that the XAVT is equipped with two!
