It's time once again to exploit Travis' hard work once again to produce the 2010 SOSAK Knife Of The Year. And, what a choice we have this time!
Travis has given me the official word- the 2010 SOSAKOnline Knife Of The Year will be the Wenger EvoWood 18 with almost fifty percent of the votes!
Without trying to take away from our previous Knives of the Year, this year's is going to be a bit extra special. Every year I say the knives are special, and I really believe they are, but this year will be the first time we've really branched off from the normal patterns by having scales made of wood rather than nylon, cellidor or rubber as we have in the past.
So, on to the details. The EvoWood 18 features a main blade, nail file, scissors, wood saw (somewhat fitting, don't you think?), can opener, bottle opener, awl and phillips driver. The SOSAK logo will be laser etched into the wood, so it should be at least as permanent as the etching into the EVOGrip scales in the past annual knives, like the NewRanger 78 from last year and the EVOGrip 16 we did in 2007!
Thanks to a special deal from Wenger, we will have this year's Knife Of The Year priced at $61.00US each (plus shipping) which is well below the MSRP of $84.95 for these special knives. So, how does one go about placing their order? Simple- follow this link to the order form and Travis will contact you as soon as possible with shipping quotes!
I suppose I should title this one “Swiss Style Knives” since these aren't really trying to pass for real SAKs so much as they are simply pocket knives that are similar to those produced by Victorinox and Wenger. Still, they aren't real SAKs and I'm certain the typical layman wouldn't know the difference, since these are about the right size, have the same features and are very similar in appearance.
I wrote this at the end of August, but wasn't able to include it for technical reasons. Rather than let it go to waste I thought I'd publish it this month. Sorry if it's a bit out of date!
It's that time of the year again in my neck of the woods. We are all keeping track of the weather reports to see if Hurricane Earl makes landfall this weekend, and if so, what kind of intensity it will be. Latest estimates are that it will hit here as a Class 2 hurricane, which shouldn't be too bad as the Class 3 we had a few years ago flattened most of the province and left very little for other storms to destroy!
When Victorinox initially released images of the new Dual Pro model I was a bit skeptical. I thought that the extra opening hole would get in the way, or at the very least be uncomfortable during use. As most of you will know by now, I am wrong an awful lot- although an amusing twist this time is that I was at least partially right, at least this once.
Ok, I realize that many of you think ALOX articles are getting old- very old. I'm pretty much in agreement with you, but that doesn't mean I'm going to stop writing about new ALOX finds! This month's addition is an interesting one though, even for those of you tired of reading about the latest fancy colored Pioneer.
It seems like just yesterday I rolled out a new site called EDCSource, but in fact, it was one whole year ago. In that time we've made a few changes and already suffered through at least one software upgrade.
But, more importantly, I have used EDCSource to get some cool items to add to my collection over the last year- things like my Swiss Cross Rucksack, my Master Gardener, my Kershaw 3030 and a few other goodies that I'd been after for some time.
As usual around here we like to do things to celebrate anniversaries- something that lasts the whole month long, so check out EDCSource for details on what's happening, when it happens!
Murse, Man bag, Organizer, we have all heard the terms that have been used to describe the accessory that many men have been carrying the last few years. Something that people fail to realize as they poke a bit of fun at those who carry a bag is that throughout humanitie’s development men throughout the world have carried a bag as a means of transporting what they felt were necessities.
I first saw these at SHOT last year while meeting with Rick Case, owner of Nite Ize, and I was intrigued by the concept. It's one of those simple things that apparently no one has thought of, despite being so obvious!
I'd like to use this space for a moe if I may- It's Movember, which means it's time to raise some funds for Cancer research. All the details can be found here:
Members on Multitool.org, led by Mat Sullivan, have put together a Multi Moustache Growing Team, and we could use all the support we can get! Log in to our team page or the general page and look for MultiMoe in the teams and give till it hurts!
I'll be posting my personal progress once a week in the SAKtivity section, but you'll be able to track the whole team's progress at http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,23875.0.html
